am I the only one that really liked the story?
I mean, ok, I am easy to please with stories, I like just about every movie, and no game story line has let me down.
Im like the story writers dream :P

Yeah I love pve, but really there's nothing wrong with either choice. Just think, if everyone liked the same thing....there would never be any fries left for me! lol
Seriously though, GW was made to appeal to alot of different players. You have henchies for the soloers, pvp for the rush of the kill and the win, and co-op for the pve friendlies. Not to mention the social aspect of the whole thing and it's great for peeps with tons of time or just enough =).
At this point I can't think of a game I'd rather spend my tons of time playing.

I don't mind the story at all. I do hope to see a more exciting tale in the expansion though. I like tragic, horrific and exciting scenes.
The only scenes that could've been tragic was the scene where Althea is dead and the one where Prince Rurik takes a dirt nap. They weren't that great though since they didn't make you care about them to begin with. lol

I can not see it been the uber idea of a random dungeon type system simply due to the size such an update would be (new textures, new level-models, new coding etc) and the time it would take to fully test it would mean that unless they planned this from day one, and have been working on it. it wont be done)
|
Erm, not that complicated really, they have made new maps which we haven't seen yet, now you make 4 duplicates of each map, each with a subtle change to layout. You dont have to make new textures, use existing.
Now say the dungeon is 10 levels deep, now let each map of the 10 level be a random 1d4 of each area, there you have a basic randomised dungeon.
As for the quests that is not that hard either, you would actually have to write 100+ quests then have it role a 1d100 for which mission, the loot / rewards for the missions can be further randomised.
Quote:
MEGA QUESTS. you know, like search all of tyria for x item or people or something. be extremely hard (thanks to instanced areas, you can easily insert or totally replace mobs for quests if you so wish). this would be awesome.
|
You can easily use the same system to implement the above.
You could not have a true random 'on the fly' generating map creator, but you can make a damn fine illusion of one. True random generators are actually flawed, they can make just as many duff, dead end, uncompleteable dungeons as working ones.
Yes I do a little C++ programing, nothing special, and yes I have created a 500 area RPG module for NWN, with 20 random dungeons. This includes creature design, balancing, quests writing , both story line and code.
(Using the basic principle as above, but not as complexed. I actually added random dungeons, Although my dungeons where all single level. Basically you entered a cave and 1 of 20 different dungeons spawned.)

this will make some Harcore PvEers get their feet wet in PvP -> bigger pvp community, more fun. I like it.
and cool, the pvp crowd gets less grind. i hope.
btw NOW is the time to get rid of your unID runes for ridiculous prices, before its too late

I hope those that did take the time to unlock runes, weapon upgrades and skills also have a benefit in some way to this new system.

I played the game up to Thunderhead Keep with three character for the purposes of unlocking a majority of skills for all Professions for the sake of options. Frankly, I'm pumped about the new patch.
It'll be nice to fill out the missing Runes and skills, but the main reason I'm happy about this the chance that it will spark some life in PvP and allow people to branch out into more diversified builds. Likewise, I hope this brings back PvPers who are burnt out by all the PvE or Guilds who have been unwilling to compete because they're afraid they'll fall behind the metagame.
Hopefully others players who invested too much time unlocking in PvE will realize that what is good for PvP is good for them.

The last few lines of this weeks statement from Anet about the update seems to let me believe that the two new areas are coming for the PVE'ers in the next few weeks too. Since they mention ascended characters with 'obsidian' armor (implying the 15k per piece armor using obsidian shards to get it).
So if all remains good, all will get what they want.

The only thing that puzzles me is that we've tossed this unlocking through PvP idea around loads of times, and always people argued with it and went back to how hard it was through PvE...and now...that they've decided to implement it...people magically seem to like it? Go figure.
Good updates, can't wait. Hopefully now certain people will stop with the threads about how difficult and "unfair" it is for PvPers. I've unloaded my brain in those so many times...they're like an addiction, I can't NOT post in them. I need help that way.
Great updates, only goes to show that if you're patient things'll be fixed.
Cheers.

Ha ha ha Thats true, though for all the good it seemed to do :P . When they released that update i got a sigil that day for 35k!
If you think about it , it makes more sence to appease the P v P crowd right now then move on to P v E . I know if i was strictly P v P i would have gotten tierd of it by now. Again Good job Anet!

Well, I've been in the PvP/Alternate Methods of unlocking camp for a while. Even made a suggestion which was pretty well received. So, I can't say that I've seen many people against unlocking in PvP in all my involvement in discussions about the unlock system (a subject that I've often been drawn to), but that might be a forum thing.

I completely agree.
This wasnt an issue that i personaly was a part of, since i enjoy the pve content... but wow. This is going to make my gaming fun shoot through the roof. Cause i enjoy the pvp more then anything in this game, or any other game... really... this is the only game on my comp for now, and perhaps for a very long time... i've been waiting for a balanced out pvp game, and i feel like it has arrived.

Finally, some more details on the proposed fix for PvP grind that certain parties had been taunting me with cryptic references about for a week.
Good to hear that progress for unlocking stuff in PvP will be account-wide, cause I swear I re-roll my PvP guy at least every twelve hours. :P
Hopefully the stuff you can unlock will be reasonably priced...would suck to have to beat ass for three years before you could unlock a Sup Vigor rune. (Of course, my ideal system would be that every time your PvP guy gains a "level", you could unlcok one rune, any rune, of your choice...but something tells my ANet will still require me to work my ass off for that sweet, delicious Sup Vigor. )
I wonder if they'll let you unlock skills, too...now THAT would be awesome.

Unlocking better be more frequent that level ups on PvP chars. Earning 10000+ XP takes a long time at 25 XP per kill. I think my current PvP char has only leveled up once, after ~8 hours of random arena played time.

Basically they are saying that they are going to add some content / quests because once you have the 75k armour set there is nothing much left to do PvE wise. 99% of players with them armours already have all the skills they need. The are going to add some stuff for after you have finished the story arc. It does sound likely that it will be the new areas that they promoted around E3 time.

The only worry for me is guilds with 2 accounts, and say Posative Zero and Negative Zero fight, thir is some posability of useing thsi to their advantage.
If you read PvP will only unlock items not drop them. I think at the end of every battle you will get one random skill, rune or upgrade unlocked. Drops of these tiems would mean the PvE economy of the game would be run soley by thr PvP players.
I'm not against the rewards scheme but it has to be watched carefully or it could be abused.
On whats next, I think it's 2 new areas accessable from the Temple of Ages. these will probably be damned hard and always drop a purple or gold item.
